Wax melt safety!

Writer: Carla MarshallCarla Marshall

Burning wax melts is an amazing way to bring some gorgeous fragrance to your home from cleaning scents that put the finishing touch on a big deep clean or a fruity fragrance to smell while you watch some tv under a blanket but it's important to be safe while doing it! So this is a guide on melting safely!

So remember these 9 top tips!

1 . Never leave a burner unattended the chances of it starting a house fire however slim are not worth it! So if your popping out with the dog for a minute just blow it out and you can always relight it after!

2 . Placement is key! What's near your burner if the fire spits what will it hit? A pile of paper? Curtains? Or a sofa maybe? If that sounds right it's time to move it away from those flammable objects

3 . Keep it out the way of children just like a kettle or a sause pan of hot water if i child can reach they probably will pull it down so keep it back and out of the reach of little fingers (this goes for paws too!

4 . Do not over fill your burner with wax it may look like you don't have much in it but when it melts you will sure see it begins to fill up and you don't want wax spilling all over your surfaces !

5 . Get the right tea lights! Like a remote control you need the correct size battery's for it to function you can get 4HR and 8HR tea lights! Wax melt burners are only designed for 4HR ones!

6 . Now this one follows on from the last when you use a 4HR tea light only use one! When you use 2/3 your subjecting you wax warmer to more heat than it's designed for and will most likely shatter!

7 . Don't mix fragrances together sometimes two different sents mixed together Whould smell so good but takeing a lemon wax melt and a raspberry wax melt together can have some serious effects! It's like mixing random cleaning chemicals together you don't know what your makeing! My advice is look for a vendor who is selling the blend as a single scent it means it has been tested and if safe!

8 . Inspect your burners ! Now this may sound like a exspencive thing but if you notice a burner has a crack or chip no matter how small throw it away! It's like a bike helmet it's no longer guaranteed to keep you safe!

9. Dont touch or move your wax melt burner while it is lit the ceramic can be extremely hot this goes for just after you have extinguished the tea light too leave it at least 30 minutes before handling!
